AMERICAN SHIFTER

I was looking a buying a shifter from American Shifter. I noticed EnglishBob wasn't happy with his, has anyone else had probems with their shifters? They look good and are less expensive than the other brands.

Not positive, but I think American shifter is the post bankruptcy version of Gennie shifter.

It's a company owned by the Hoffman group and has an ex gennie shifter Guy working there but as far as I know it's all made offshore and it shows.

Thumbs down american shifter

I purchased a dual action model on Jan. 7 and recieved the unit 15 days later. Some of the parts were back ordered and are due on Feb. 20. The unit is similar to the Lokar and just as expensive. There were several problems with the unit. The right side bracket was bent at the wrong angle and had to be adjusted with a BFH. The tail brackets were the wrong ones and don't work. The right side plate that holds the nuetral safety switch was not tapped. The sales department said I was supposed to tap it. This was not the case in their instruction video and a tap was not listed as one of the tools needed. Customer service is not listed as an option when you call these guys and tech support does not return calls. Best I can tell these guys are Australian selling a Chinese product partially assembled in Oregon. Good Luck Mate!

Ok lowkat, I didn't realize it was the hoffman group. They've got a very bad reputation. Search them on the Hamb, you'll get lots of bad info afa the poor quality of their parts. I shopped at Streamline in Denver a few years ago, I think they were behind the Gennie shifters. Their counter guys at the time steered me (quietly) away from the hoffman group parts on the shelves. Funny that hoffman now owns them.

There are guy's on E-Bay selling Lokar shifters within 20 bucks of American. That's the way I'm going, and in most cases shipping is free.

Anything made by Hoffman Group you will be tempting fate. It is hard to get good quality parts out of China.

I recently had to adjust my Lokar shifter. The previous owner did not install it correctly.

The support from Lokar was great!

I ordered the Lokar 23" nostalga shifter with a boot for $250.00 and $17.00 for shipping. I should see it in 2 weeks.

Oh, you mean gear-shifters.

For a moment I thought this was going to be another gender-shifter thread. Tee-hee
