intake manifold bolts

Quick questions.
Do some or all of the intake bolts on a 302 need thread sealant? Do they pass through water jackets?
Thanks.

I can only speak about the 302 EFI intake, but no. I used a little anti-seize when I bolted mine on. I only used thread sealant on the shorter, lower head bolts.

Thanks,

The early engines had thin aluminum washers under the heads, I think Ford might have been concerned about vacuum leaks from there.

None of the 302 intake bolts pass through a coolant passage. And none pass through an intake passage to create a vacuum leak. There is a possibility of getting oil seepage up the bolt from the lifter valley, but I've never seen this happen. The only bolts that need thread sealer are the lower head bolts on 1985-up blocks and the four waterpump/timing cover bolts that are on top/bottom of the two coolant ports in the front of the block. Plus the flywheel/flexplate bolts on the later model crankshafts. The holes these thread into go through the rear flange into the crankcase area.

Is there anything special about the factory bolts? Having a hard time finding the intake manifold bolt kits in stock locally. Wondering if I can just grab the right size bolts at a local bolt place and use them?

They're all 5/16NC. I don't know the length off hand. I can look in my stash tomorrow and measure them
