1971 F250 camper special
the three holes on the right side of steering wheel, from left to right per operators manual...
cargo light switch(optional) - emergency switch - lighter
if i don't have a cargo light what belongs in the cargo light switch hole?
so it came with a plug? i do have a manual choke that is in the wiper switch hole, wiper switch is hanging down below the dash, i'll be moving the choke over, thanks
On my '69 F100, the emergency flasher toggle switch is located in the glove box.
On my dash, left to right is the cargo light, manual choke **** and the cigar lighter.
That is how my 68 was also. But my PO had wired the cargo lamp in with the dome lamp. Which I like it that way. To turn on the cargo light I just twist the headlamp switch **** to turn on the dome light. I removed the non-working cargo lamp switch and put an emergency flasher switch out of the 1971 F100 parts truck I had in it's spot. The glove box mounted one in my 68 was gone anyways. The wiring plug was the same between the 2 emergency flasher switches. So I extended the wiring and moved it from the glove box to the dash.
that's the setup my 68 f100 ranger has, so your cargo switch flips on your flashers? good idea. just couldn't figure out that extra hole, my 71 originally had the auto choke, the guy i bought the 71 from put the added choke in the wiper hold and the wiper switch hung down, i think i'll put the choke in the hole, thanks for the pic

My cargo light **** turns the cargo light on (white light) when the **** is pulled out, like a normal cargo light. My brake pedal makes the cargo light turn red when it's pushed (high-mount 3rd brake light). If I pull the cargo light **** out AND turn the emergency flasher on, the cargo light alternates between white and red.
2X. Now that's am attention getter! Way cool Steve.
Thanks. I'll have to give credit where credit is due and that's to Coupe5oh on the Fordification forums. I didn't come up with the idea of the switchback LED --although I had tried to figure out a way to do this with individual LEDs. Once I was made aware of the switchback LED, that drastically reduced the complication of making this work.
Coupe5oh didn't go into intricate detail of how he did his conversion but, I was able to figure out how to make my setup work to operate the way it does.
His post from April, 2014 on converting his cargo light to double as a high-mount 3rd brake light and where I got the basis for the idea of converting my cargo light. (post is about 2/3rds of the way down the page).
