2007 Expedition EL Won't Start Reliably
Hi,
I have a '07 Expedition which has been causing me problems. A few weeks ago, it wouldn't start at all. It would crank, but never starts. I would spray starter fluid into the intake port and it would start for half a second and then die. I had it towed to a mechanic and of course it starts right up. Anyways, they did replace the fuel pump and fuel filter, so I thought all was well.
Over the weekend, it wouldn't start again. I had driven it to the store, so the engine was still warm. Same thing, the starter is cranking the engine, but it never makes to running. I was able to spray a lot of starter fluid and eventually got it started. Drove it home and of course it starts for the next ten times in a row.
I have a code reader, and it doesn't show any pending or fault codes. I was curious if anyone had any suggestions? I talked with the mechanic and they aren't too optimistic since it starts right up now and is difficult to diagnose when it is working.
Thanks,
Patrick

Unfortunately new doesn't always mean good. The fuel pump could still be the problem. The 2007 EL does not have a FPDM. All functions of fuel delivery are controlled by the fuel pump module in the tank, even pressure. Also, the fuel pressure is higher on these trucks. I chased a lean condition with my 2007 even ruling out the fuel pump because it had 30 psi at the rails. These trucks need 65-70 psi and the replacement pump you got might not be doing the job. You can get a cheap fuel pressure tester at Napa.
