So I recently acquired a 97 E350 passenger van with 191k on the clock with the great V10 motor. Building an adventure van out of her.
Engine runs good, tranny shifts good, but upon "hard acceleration" it's really loud. Once she gets back to lower RPM's, it's reasonably normal. Sitting at idle is quiet. My guess is something exhaust related...maybe muffler, so swinging it by the muffler shop sometime this week for them to take a listen. Any thoughts on here?
Judging by the location of your exhaust (not original), the muffler shop should be able to help.
X 2 on this and the muffler being an aftermarket unit. Add a full length tailpipe and that'll quieten it down a lot. I'm running a full length 3" Dynomax super turbo truck muffler behind my 96's 351W with a full 3" piped system (single) and it's very quiet, just enough sound to let you know it's there. The tailpipe is a mandrel bent stainless unit for an F150, these also fit the E series vans.
