2001 E-350 but post here for better response. Shifter handle is locked in park with key in both off and run position. Can only get it out of park with the key in the position between off and run.
Unbolted the ignition switch and shifter would move. Found that it is the action of the ignition switch that makes the shift selector lock up. Seems like the problem is caused by the shift selector lock-out solenoid as the problem comes back when the switch is operated manually hanging from its wires.
Bad ignition switch or is there any other things that can make the solenoid lock the selector when not supposed to?
You'd better go check and see if your brake lights work. The shift lock release is activated by the stop lamps on your vehicle. If the stop lamps don't work, neither does the shift lock release unless you use the bypass procedure in the owner's manual.
Bingo! Blown 15A fuse. New fuse and brake light, hazard and shift selector work as supposed to. Why the fuse blew I don't know. If it does again I'll have to dig further. Thanks!
E-series aren't my area of expertise, but they're generally really close to the F-series.
Did you have the speed control recall (05S28) done a few years back? On this electrical configuration, an inoperative shift lock release or no brake lights due to a blown fuse was an early precursor to bigger problems (including fire) due to a leaking switch on the master cylinder.
I have not gotten any recall on this van. Bought it 2012 an should have heard from ford by now if it wasn't already fixed. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for helping!
