IWE vent has been capped???

Bought the truck a few weeks ago, I was under the hood and noticed a screw stuck in the IWE vent on front right side. Is there any good reason someone would have done this?

I was going to remove the screw assuming they did this thinking it was a vac line from somewhere, but figured I'd ask here first. Thanks

If it is the vent line, then it should not be plugged.
Perhaps the IWE system is bad, so someone tried to plug the vacuum leak. There is a sticky which explains the system. They all fail eventually so you should check your system or disable (leave the front axles engaged) by plugging the vacuum source.

On my '05 the solenoid has two ports, the upper one is the one I think you are referring to. It leads to a Tee fitting with one line off the Tee going to the vacuum reservoir mounted by the battery and the other side of that Tee going to a vacuum source on the engine. IF they had a vacuum leak they may have just capped or plugged the line to eliminate it. What this does in effect is to leave the IWE engaged all he time since it requires vacuum to disengage them.

My guess is there is a leak in the system so the previous owner capped the line so the IWEs are always locked in.

Leaving them locked in all the time will reduce your MGS and cause a little more wear and tear on front end components since they are spinning all the time but it's really no different than guys locking the front hubs in and never unlocking them or other brands like dodge when the front end parts are spinning all the time. It actually might be better for the internals of the axle since it will stay warm and keep the moisture evaporated.

Looks like you guys are correct. I left the line capped/plugged. I had the front of the truck in the air for some brake work, and before I put it back down I started the engine and spun the wheels, the front drivetrain was spinning. So currently the system is disabled and front hubs locked all the time. I'm okay with this for the time being, and I'm going to leave it capped
