OP didn't mention what model truck, but given it's a 4.56, I'd reckon it's some sort of C&C. Did they make 4.10s for C&C trucks? I thought they were a completely different flavor of axle.
It's starting to sound like I should just wait until a good deal on a 7.3 power stroke pops up
The PS will most likely have identical gearing and have the same issues with cruising 70+. You should try and find a good deal on either idi or PS. The money you save on an idi can be spent on improving it, turbo, IP/injectors, e-fuel, etc.

I hear you. I'll keep an eye out for anything decent in decent shape that pops up. I'll post back when I am looking at something specific again or make a move on one.
For the $3k+ a GearVendors cost I'd sooner put a turbo and upgraded pump on the truck and change to 4.10:1 gears, and still be a bunch of money ahead.
This is an option if the gear change is an easy option for these. Not sure if it is.
As far as $3k+ for a gear vendor....my DNE2 cost me under $1K total, including a new driveshaft. A used GearVendor is going to cost a little more. They were going for $1-1.5K when I was looking. Total install would be $1.5-2K.
The biggest benefit for me getting the IDI instead of a PS was the lower initial cost and the ability to run the van while I looked for deals. 2nd was the ease of working on it along with cheaper parts.

True. Parts can be more affordable for sure from what I've seen.
