Hey fellas... I know this has been beat up pretty bad and that most are going with the redhead steering gear. I think mine is about to let go and I need a replacement asap.
My question is, is there a way to install some other steering gear unit that is known for being reliable (no wandering)? Maybe from a heavy duty truck or something like that?

Yes, it's called an OEM part. Red head is an excellent unit, but wanting something else that's reliable can only mean, to me anyway, go with the OEM, it's lasted at least 100,000 miles, what else can you expect from any part that has constant abuse put to it?
