Hello I have a 2006 f250 6.0. I have something slowly draining my battery but I cannot figure it out. It's a real slow draw almost like a dead cell but both batteries are fine and hold charge when out of truck. But when I open my doors to the truck the dome lights do not come on until the key is on in the truck. I've read that could be due to a short in the 12 volt constant wire. Also when I turn my key to on before starting my needles in my gauges (speedometer, fuel, etc) flutter like crazy at first then smooth out and raise up about the time the glow plugs shut off. It has done this since I got the truck last August so any help would be much appreciated!
Proper battery test is to load test them individually after they've been fully charged. My last battery had a cracked cell that would stall the truck whenever I would push a pile of snow into a snow drift. Always held a charge & never had a starting issue but when I load tested it with 425 amps for 15 seconds with my carbon pile tester, the head scratching ghost appeared. It barely failed too.
As for your parasitic draw, those can be a PIA to hunt down. Look up on YouTube how to perform this. Before you hook up your dvom to the battery, open the drivers door and flip the latch closed with a screwdriver. Let the truck sit for 30 minutes for the modules to go to sleep, then hookup dvom & start pulling fuses.
I finally got around to checking it thanks for the help! But the very first fuse I pulled dropped it from .17 amps to .02 and it is a 10 amp fuse for the cluster...why would that still be pulling juice?
