Calculating towing capacity

Afternoon!

I was curious is someone could help aid me in calculating my towing capacity.
What info do I need and how to I put it all together?
1987 F250 Regular cab long bed 4x4 4.9 EFI inline 6 with NP435 Four speed manual tranny. Axle code 29.....

How do I calculate this from here.....

Is there a door tag that lists gcvwr? I would not expect it to be very high with a 4.9L and manual trans. Is the rear axle a semi floater?

GVWR is the max weight of what the truck can weigh.... In you instance it is 6000 lbs minus the weight of your truck, which probably leaves about 1500 lbs. This is your payload. Or this is your truck PLUS the tongue weight of your trailer.

GCWR is gross combined weight, meaning the maximum weight your vehicle can move down the road.... which is the truck, all gear loaded on it, trailer weight and load on trailer.

Both GCWR and GVWR should be on your door sticker.

Realistically you should be able to carry about 2000 lbs in the bed or pull a trailer under 8000 lbs. You won't be setting speed and acceleration records but up to 55 mph for distances not going across the country the truck will do it.

That makes the rear axle a semi-floating version of the Sterling 10.25". You have a light duty F250. Everything is working against you to be an effective tow vehicle.

As far as effective towing vehicle, I guess it would be determined by the user and what they are towing.

I'm towing a 500lb masonry mixer and max 800lbs in the bed. I assume I've got enough to get the job done? Thanks for the clarification everyone

Yes. I am assuming you are a brick mason? I know alot of older brick masons who used a very similar truck long ago.

You have everything you need except the owners manual which will have charts for towing capacities. In my '90 manual a 4.9 with manual trans and 3.55 gears has a max GCWR of 7800lbs, with an auto that would be 10k.

That's a pretty light load, you should be fine.

If you were going to pull a 5000 lb. travel trailer/hauler, that would be a different story.
