Fuel Pressure Sensor

Since I'm using my Bully Dog GT as a monitor, I'm hoping to add fuel pressure to it. It's supposedly capable of displaying the fuel pressure using a separate sensor. I'm a mechanical idiot and even more of an electrical idiot. Can anybody point me in a direction of what sensor I need and where to install it? Here are the instruction on the docking station for additional sensors for the BD that I have:

AN 1 - AN 3 (ANALOG 1-3): AN 1-3 will appear in the AUX 1-3 gauge location in the Gauge Setup menu
on the GT or WatchDog once everything has been installed correctly. Note that further sensor setup is
required on the GT or WatchDog for Analog sensors to read out properly. Sensor manufactures specifications
for sensor input and output will be required for proper setup. The typical three wire sensor that
could be used in this application would include a Manifold Pressure Sensor, or an Oil Pressure Sensor.
AN + DOCK: supports a 0-5 Volt signal wire from analog sensors.
AN - DOCK: acts as an optional ground, but should not be used in substitute
for a chassis ground, it is recommended that sensors needing a ground share the
same ground as the PWR Cable for the Sensor Docking Station head unit.

Will this work?

Oil/Fuel Pressure Sending Unit | VEMS US

Tap into the test port or get a fuel bowl cap with a port?

The sensor looks like it should work.

I tapped into the test port and ran a hose to relocate it near driver's side battery. I haven't got my permanent gauge yet but will soon. I rigged it up while I was doing the blue spring a few months ago.

I thought I read the cap is upstream of the filter while the test port is downstream. But I don't recall the setup to confirm. Usually flow is from filter OD to ID.

That fuel pressure sender should work for you. One thing to consider is getting a snubber like this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It helps prevent sending unit failure from fuel pulses and spikes.

I also installed the fuel line from Strictly Diesel that included a fitting from the fuel bowl with a tee and schrader valve: https://www.strictlydiesel.com/p-267...e-adapter.aspx

That was nice because it had the fitting and relocated everything toward the firewall. I too do not have the sender and display yet, but plan on it in the future.

The only issue I have heard about the cap with access valve is that it is on the wrong side of the blue spring so you are not getting as accurate of a reading.

Here is my setup for now...

What's involved in the install? Do you have to drain the fuel bowl somehow? Looking at this relocate kit. Shipping is a killer from the other place for me.

Ohhhhh yeah...shipping can be nasty for you. Mine was free because I ordered with some other stuff over $150.

That looks like a decent setup and should do exactly what is needed.

Yes on draining the fuel bowl, but it is not much. You can crack open the cover and use a turkey baster to draw out the fuel to make it easier. You could probably get away without draining while being quick about tossing the hose in. I wouldn't do it that way. Much easier to just use a baster or drain into a small container once the plug is removed.

I had my air filter housing out for another reason so I did it then without removing the CAC tube. I had enough room to get a small crescent wrench in there to tighten it down. The new adaptor has an o-ring so you do not need to go all ape $#@! on the tightening.

Awesome. Thank You!! Think I got this figured out. Guess it was worth keeping the BD as just a monitor. I'll have egt and fuel pressure on it and can add other analog gauges if I need/want to.

Makes me wonder what other sensors could be useful to add. Is a different boost sensor other than what the ecm reads useful? Transmission temp? Others?

Transmission temperature comes in somewhere because I see it on my SGII. With a bunch of other info.

I'm no performance diesel guy, but my three gauge pod will have fuel pressure, exhaust temperature, and coolant pressure (I already run the coolant pressure). I thought about low oil pressure but there isn't a good place unless you come off the cap and I didn't want to fool with that, especially considering the system appears to be reliable and the truck isn't going too far without a functioning low oil pressure system.

As mentioned, I do have the SGII that I use all the time, and I have ForScan for the things SG doesn't do well.

Good luck with your monitor.

Thanks. I am monitoring a lot of things on Torque and the egt on my BullyDog. THe BD has some auxiliary sensor inputs to monitor pressures and egt. I'm getting trans temp from Torque and can also from the BD. Coolant pressure is a good one, I might have to add that to the BD auxiliary outputs.
