We're considering removing the engine and tranny from a totaled 2006 E350 with 190K miles, very well taken care of. Might use the engine for an '06 F250 with timing chain problems, assuming it has bearing problems from the loss of oil pressure that can occur with the 5.4 timing chain/guide failures. Might also try to sell other pieces online. Will also be using it for 'training/exposing some young teenagers to this type of work.
Anyway, as the picture shows, the body front is in bad shape, so that might make removal of the engine a challenge. But, since we're scrapping the body, cutting parts off is acceptable. Just looking for suggestions, warning, tips, etc.
Thanks!
First suggestion is to find another donor vehicle. The engines aren't the same...the Super Duty trucks got 3v heads in 2005, and the E-vans never did. The pistons, heads, and timing gear are all different. The van most likely has a different transmission as well, I don't think they got the 5R110 until later on.
So Ford made a non-3V 5.4 engine? I had no idea ...
Yup, all of them from 1997-2003 were 2V. The F150s were the first to get the 3V version in 2004, and the Super Duty in 2005. The 2V was still in production until a year or two ago.
