Got a question for those that have swapped from a 6 to an 8. I am swapping a 300 six for an 390 FE. My question is on the radiator support. Obviously, these trucks were designed a specific way and this one was built with the 300 in it. So the radiator support is built to hold the smaller radiator for the 6. It has an bracket tac welded to the grill support area. The raditor support bracket extends from the grill area about 4 inches towards the engine, then does a 90 degree inward turn for about an inch. That inward turn is keeping me from installing the larger radiator.
As I see it right now, my only option other than removing the entire support, is to cut the inward portion of the rad support off and drill new bolt holes in the grill support. I don't want to have to cut on the truck, but I don't see any other way. Anyone else run into this?
I am facing this as we speak with my 64. I want to place the radiator inside of the brackets you describe. My local radiator shop is looking for a replacement thay will fit and has the oil cooler for the tranny. I'll let you know what I find, when I do.
