x2. Those barbs on the clips look like they'll take the paint off the back side of the fender lip when they get installed. I may just take my chances and go without when I get mine this fall. I didn't put flaps on my '12 Denali and now 5 and 1/2 years later, I have ZERO chips on the rockers/lower-body. I would assume that Ford is using a similarly tough paint along the lower body.
There has been a lot of people saying that the paint on the newer trucks chips pretty easily. I guess the durability of water based paints is less.
What I've done in the past when I had to drill holes to install stuff is to put a bunch of silicon around the fastener to seal out moisture and have never had anything rusting issues.
I have the OEM flares and I was able to get the clips over on the metal on the fender and the flare to secure the flare. I'm not worried about the paint because of the aluminum body.
Thanks for the photos. They answered my question about how the OEM flares mount. In the one photo of the rear you can see the push pins go up around the radius of the wheel well which are used to hold the flare in place.
This is the same set up Ford has used on the F150s since '04. It works good but it makes it very difficult to install some take off OEM flares since it's harder to get the holes drilled correctly.
