Looking for jailbar tailgate.

A chap I know is on the lookout for a 47 tonner tailgate. Is there a new tailgate produced by one of the aftermarket suppliers. If anyone has any information it would be appreciated. Thanks

There is not an aftermarket supplier for the tonner tailgate. However, this tailgate was produced from the '42 model tonner through '47. Then in '48 the same tailgate was found on the F-2 and F-3 models through '52 with the same stamped Ford Script.

Thanks tacomacream. That will give a wider range of years to check for them. I will keep my open for a 42 - 52 tailgate for an f2 or f3.

One of the most beat-up parts on any pickup. I have one on my 47 tonner, but it's a mess. I hope to start repairing it soon, but it will never be show quality. Best of luck. Can you post a picture of this tonner? I never get tired of seeing another.

I understand what you are saying GB. I have to get a tailgate for my 55 tonner. I will talk to the owner and see if he has any pictures of the truck to share.

I know where there might be several. I texted my contact yesterday and will go look to see if they are the correct ones. I am currently in Florida. Won't be home to Nebraska for another 10 days or so.

I visited my contact today and took pics of several tailgates that he has available. All are original, no reproductions and would need some work to restore. Prices run from $250-350 each. Here is what he has:

The one in the best condition. Has a bow in the top rail that can be straightened.

Original paint. A little rough. Has some rust and lower left rail is rusted through. Could be repaired.

No paint. Solid with some dings and dents.

Here is one more. It is about 4-6" wider and about 2-3" taller than the others. Not sure if it is from a later model (48-52ish?) or if 1 ton beds had larger tailgates?

Good find. I am sure that the tonners and possibly the 3/4 tons had larger tailgates. Do you have measurements for the larger tailgate?

Just tried to contact the guy who owns the tonner but didn't get an answer. I will try again tomorrow. I appreciate your digging these up Rickster800. Thanks

I did not get any measurements today. They are about 30 miles from me. My contact was heading to a funeral when I arrived at his place so just took pics. Have your guy look at the pics. I can get in touch with my contact to help to measure them. Maybe someone else may know the measurements and help with a comment.

Never good to hear someone is going to a funeral. I do appreciate that the two of you took the time to look at these and posting the pictures. Gonna contact the owner and will show him the pictures.

The tailgate that is larger is for a Tonner or F-2 / F-3.
