I find the plywood and angle iron in that bed interesting. My F-2 has an identical set of angle iron in the same location, just no plywood or angle braces. My F-2 came out of Minnesota. Was that a common modification for grain hauling or something?
Nice truck! I like the ONE TON badge on the hood, too. When GB sees this he will surely notice the nice grille bars. I will try to get the dimensions of the larger tailgate this weekend.

Typical ford beds to need reinforced when the owners drove a lot with the tailgate down. Even newer trucks into the 70s and 80s will eventually break out when driven without a closed tailgate.
I was able to get out and measure the tonner tailgate this evening. Appears to be 55" long x 21" high. Also got some additional pics of the condition. I originally thought it was a little better shape than it is in, but it is an original tailgate so probably has survived relatively well considering these were working trucks.
A weld repair along bottom tube. A little wrinkle in skin.
Weld repair at corner of bottom tube.
Some small kinks and some rust through along bottom tube.
Thanks Rickster:
I appreciate you taking the time to go back to get the measurements and the extra pictures. I will pass them on to the trucks owner.
Have a good weekend.
That tailgate is about average from what I've seen. If show quality is required, it would be expensive to get straight, but for an around town driver, a bit of welding and a piece of pipe for a new bottom tube will be just right!
GB, that would be great but it isn't for sale. The owner told me about it while he was moving a house for me. Since I knew all you guys were enablers you would be willing to help him with his project. The jailbars look to be in nice condition but the rear fenders are a little beat up.
He will be back to put the house on the new foundation in the next couple of weeks so I will chat with him then to see if he has had any luck finding the parts to fix up the truck.
Anyone have an idea of what it would cost to ship a tailgate from California to Ontario Canada? I think it looks good enough to put on our 55 f350 if the mover doesn't want it.
