my truck has 337k KM (210k in Freedom Units), and i developed a loud clicking, squealing, and grinding sound in 4x4, only when coasting.
i pulled the front driveshaft, and started taking it apart. ALL of the u-joints were acceptable, but the centre bearing of the CV joint was completely shot.
the rubber boot protecting it was cracked and deteriorated. It was probably the root cause of failure.
just thought i'd give a heads up. inspect your CV joint boot. you'll still have to take it apart to replace it, but you can save headache and $ by not having to replace the bearing/ball itself.
attached is how mine looked. SPICER 2-86-418
