Hi guys, I have an new to me 1999 4x4 F350 that I was giving a good once over today on the front end since it wanders a little bit. but anyways I didnt see a abs sensor wire on the front. the plugs are there behind the inner fender well and it looks like there is a plug when the sensor should go in the wheel bearing. was 2 wheel abs an option on these trucks? is there anything else this changes front end wise? as always thanks for the help guys.
build date is 4/99 so I would guess a late 99? oh and i forgot to mention it has no abs light on. and the light does work since it lights up when you first turn the key on.
From 99 to (I think) 01 4WABS was only standard on the Lariat models and optional on XL and XLT's. The only trucks I've seen without it were 4x2's. It's pretty uncommon.
ill be darned... I've done quite a bit of front end work on these trucks and never seen one without front abs. So what im seeing really isnt a problem then? I appreciate the help boss.
abs sensor holes just have a sensor plug looking deal in them. all the wiring is there. no abs light and the bulb isnt burned out since it lights up when turning ignition on. I circled where the sensor would go you can see the plug...
I haven't dove into it but my understanding is/was that my E99 did not have 4 wheel ABS but has something for the rear. I have also been led to believe (I forget where from though) that the sensor in the top of my back rear is the same sensor that is used in all four corners of the 4 wheel ABS, where they have something different in the top of the rear (don't bet on this though, I'm not 100% on it). Whilst I was working on mine up front I, too, found what looked like ABS wiring and it left me My rear sensor was bad when I got the truck and lit the dash light but when I replaced the sensor the light went out.
While it's called 4 wheel ABS, there are only 3 sensors. One at each front hub and only one at the top of the rear differential housing; the front sensors being different from that in the rear. My friend's '00 F350 XLT 4x4 did not come factory equipped with 4 wheel ABS, while my '01 F250 Lariat 4x4 did. I do remember working on trucks that were "stubbed" for front ABS, but were not equipped with them. As Scott stated above, it was optional in different trim levels for those years.
Hmmm E99 here. Build date 10/98 and no front sensors...only sensor on the rear diff.
I know that nothing is missing from the front end as I have just basically rebuilt the front hub/bearing/steering on the truck all the way to the steering box. No harnesses, no sensors. Just brake line and vacuum line

Same function. Different parts. The one on the rear diff is bigger and also provides the signal for the speedometer.
