My 65s 240 has finally hit the point where it needs to be replaced or rebuilt and im deciding where to go with it. I have a 4.6 with 20,000 on it in a 99 mustang and was curious if that would be worth a swap. If so is there a way to bypass all computer activity other than whats in the engine(brakes, airbags)

Good question... I don't have an answer, but I'm curious as well. Maybe someone will chime in and school us both!

With enough time and money anything can be done, but it's going to take a LOT of work, time and money. I swapped out a 1995 3.8 v6 and AOD with a 2001 3.8 v6 and 4rW in a father son project and it took 9 months to get it running as the computers and wiring are completely different.

We made multiple trips to the local pick N pull lot as well as lots of shopping on ebay. Start making a list of all the things you would need to purchase and/or modify. Estimate how much time that would take and then double it.

You will never get your investment back so plan to drive it for a long time.

I don't know if this is everything you would need but it's one way to do it, if you were considering bolting on a carburetor. If you wanted to keep the FI I'm sure you could swap over the factory harness and thin out what you don't need. Easier said than done.

irhootie, what trany would you use?
If the one from the stang that is bolted to the motor how is the speedo driven?
A lot go thru the computer to shift the trany and drive a speedo gauge.

It would help if you had the whole stang to get any needed parts from.
