Ready for a tire change.

Hello all, still pretty new to the forums. I have a 97 f-350 xlt 460 EFI, I have been looking for a new set of tires, and have settled on Federal Couragia MT tires. Inexpensive and 10ply. I currently run 32" E rated tires, that are the skinniest things this planet has ever seen! I am torn between the 35x12.50 and the 285/75 (basically a skinny 37) From what I am reading (I have 4.11 gearing) Is if I threw on the 285/75s is that my gas mileage would go up? But I was always told that the smaller tires would give me better gas mileage? Can someone help me understand/recommend me a size?

Thank you!

Much depends on what you do with the truck. Trailer alot, haul in the bed, off road trails for camping, lots of mud, or just on road use?

Then comes budget, what is your price range on what you are willing to spend.
I run mostly pavement to and from work with some off road on my cousins farm. So a set of all terrain tires are fine for me, I don't need the big mud lug tires.

If I can cut cost that would be great. Its my daily so to one job, and some mild trails at the farm getting from one spot to another.

put damn near 95k on my last set and I'm 10k into my new set. My old man has run two sets on his 2500 HD pulling trailers and no problems what so ever

I've never noticed any noticeable difference in mileage going to 285/75/16 from a smaller size. The 285's are only about a 33" tire tho, not 37. I've never been a fan of retread tires for street use.

I was going to point that out too. A 285/75-16 is 32.8" tall and 11.2" wide.

On the other hand, a 235/85-20 is 36.8" tall (and still 11.2" wide). You need all three numbers in a metric tire size to know the diameter.
