This is probably due to an unfortunate twist in the Federal Emissions Warranty. Cats on passenger cars and light-duty trucks (up to 8,500 lbs. GVWR) are covered for 8 years / 80K miles. Cats on heavy-duty vehicles (>8,500 lbs. GVWR) are covered for only 5/50.
