Not a big fan of painted bumpers. Chrome is much more durable. Big reason I wanted a Lariat. Just couldn't pass on the deal for a Platinum. Will probably try to swap out bumpers, do something with grill and get rid of Platinum tailgate strip.
That's the one thing that I didn't want on the Platinum. I see so many driving around with the rust specks all over the bumper on older trucks. Anyone have luck with the clear vinyl bra covering on bumpers?
I have a platinum. I applied the clear plastic across the front bumper, rear bumper, rocker panels both sides, front of hood and top cab above windshield. And lower portion of tailgate (rocks bounce back when towing).
It doesn't help, my front has three big gouges in a week, rock goes through the plastic and gouges the paint. Lower rear fenders where they flare out are also chipped up.
I would gladly trade my white bumpers for chrome. Chrome bumpers have three times the life. I will probably end up doing line-x or something in a year when these ones are toast. Not a big fan of the aftermarket bumpers, I don't plan on bulldozing anything.

Do you drive on a lot of gravel etc? Mine is in town and interstates when towing. The chrome on my 09 Lariat took a rock so big last year it dented the steel!

Well it is winter here, so they use a lot of small rock (fine gravel) instead of sand, so that is the source of the rock blasting. The power folding steps are really nice, but they afford little protection to the lower sides of the vehicle.
Not complaining, I knew this was going to happen, just annoying is all. Happy with the truck so far, great interior, very quiet inside.
I've been looking into the same thing. I love the Lariats, but I hate chrome. I would want to black out the bumpers and grille if I end up with a Lariat. I talked to a guy who does hydrodip painting and he suggested having the bumpers powder coated. You may not be able to get an exact color match with the powder coating but if you're doing black, white, silver, it should be close enough to not be able to tell. And it's durable.
