Watching the "Last Picture Show" !
I recently watched the "extended cut" of The Last Picture Show---not much different than the theatrical release but a few interviews with cast members---really just a so-so version.
But Hank was called The Hillbilly Shakespeare and he's STILL highly regarded even today. He's NOT everyone's cup 'o tea naturally--he does bring images of the 50's back to mind though.
Hank Jr is about twice his father's size so not likely they're the same jackets.
Its long been rumored Hank Sr is NOT Jr's real father----there's little to no family resemblance 'twixt the two.
Sons usually grow up to look more like moms except for their eyes. Their eyes resemble dad more. Maybe a different color but still dad knows.
They both got the gaze. Thas father and son for sure. Jr has his mothers lips. they both got Spock's ears. Chins are narrow and eyebrows.are a match. Young Jr. was sort of painful but later he got better !
The superhero shows of that era were campy, over-the-top sitcoms posing as drama. CGI didn't exist, special effects were sorely limited, digital imagery and editing wasn't even on the radar, etc. They were really limited in what they could do so they hid the super-heroes behind campy stories, dialog, and sub-plots.
Batman, Superman, Wonderwoman, Greatest American Hero, Green Hornet, etc. Even Star Trek fit into that mold...
Thinking this is where Brian Wilson decided to want to go a different way ?
Different path to be sure! That's Al Jardine singing lead, a bit of a departure from Brian's very involved producer role. Here's another song from Pet Sounds where Al sings much of the lead, Brian's more complex vocal harmonies were showing up quite often by that album's release:
