Honking frustration-Help!

I have the intelligent access key and like to keep it in my pocket at all times. This is for a 2017 Expedition Limited with 302A package. I have set the autolock feature to unlock so the doors stay unlocked when the vehicle is running. My frustration is this; when I get out of the vehicle and leave it running, close the door to get the mail or something else, it honks twice. I do not like this feature at all. Studying the OM, there is nothing in settings to turn off the honk. I know it is an alert that I am walking away with the fob in my pocket and the vehicle is running, but duh, I KNOW the vehicle is running. The honk is a PITA.

I went to the dealership yesterday (a Saturday...) to ask how to turn this feature off and no one knew the answer. So, does anyone on the forum have an answer on how to turn this off? Leaving the fob in the vehicle is not an option since it stays in my pocket at all times.

Any ideas??

Thanks guys!

You cannot disable the double horn honk, like it or not you're stuck with it. For the record I agree with you, anyone should be able to disable any warnings they want to disable.

I'd be very interested in hearing about any solutions you find, NG. I do the same as you and would love to not advertise to the world that it's running and I've left it.

I don't have the intelligent access key so I can't try this, but I would think if the intelligent access key is out of range then the vehicle cannot be driven away. Try starting it and then go and put the intelligent access key in the house out of range. Then go back out and try to drive the vehicle and see if it shuts down. Knowing that might not solve the horn honk issue, but at least you'll know no one can jump in it and drive it away.

You can absolutely drive them away and for as long as you leave it running. It is a safety related thing. Imagine the key losing communication in a busy intersection or a dark lonely road in the middle of the night. The risk to people would outweigh the risk of your vehicle being stolen. Only solution on a Ford is to leave your keys or wire a switch to disable the horn momentarily and hit it before getting out. I can shut the key reminder off on my Corvette, but never get out like that in public.

That's different, I'm talking about it being able to be pulled out of Park and you're talking about a situation where it's already in Drive.

In my experience, the shifters still work provided the vehicle wasn't remote started. The ignition is already on so the shift interlock doesn't stop you. Once you shut the vehicle off, this all resets and you need the keys again.

Well that sucks as far as helping solve the OP's issue.

There is no key with the Intelligent access system, so the shift interlock is computer controlled, NOT mechanically controlled. I know mine specifically shows "No Key Detected" in the left dash screen when I first get into it with it running.

I'll try it this evening to validate that it can't be pulled out of park.

As a followup, I finally got to try this last night. I'd strongly recommend trying this on your own vehicle to see how it operates and leave it at that. I'll be making some changes to mine.

I disabled it on my 18 with Forscan. I also enabled “police mode” which does not allow shifting from park without the key fob in the vehicle. Look for the “Forscan spreadsheet” thread in the 2017+ super duty forum.

Sweet! Thank you. Until then, I’m just not closing the door tight.
