Overdue Maintenance and a Question
Brakes were weak:
Pulled the drums and the RR was oil soaked. Got new linings, replaced the wheel cylinders, and bought the tool to pull the hub (Sterling 10.25 full floating). Replaced the seal using the Scotseal one. Pretty easy repair. Front brakes look fine, and I had re-packed the hubs not too many miles ago. Replaced a leaky brake master cylinder, and flushed the hydraulics for both the brakes and clutch.
The speedometer was noisy last time I drove it:
Pulled the cluster, and the cable, lubed it and replaced. Tested with my drill and it's rock steady using the drill, but running the rear wheels up to speed it's quiet, but still jumpy. I looked at the plastic gear that is driven by the transfer case, and it has visible uneven wear, likely caused by the binding cable. New gear on order.
While the cluster was out I noticed that the previous owner had removed the lamp for the ABS warning. Replaced it, and it glows. Sounds like an old problem that the guy didn't want to solve.
Now for the question:
Will there be a code set for that ABS light? Does that code remain in some kind of memory? Does disconnecting the battery clear that code? If so should I try that first since I had the brakes all apart? Master is full, brakes work very well, brake lights work. Cruise control has always been hit or miss with this truck. Any relationship there? I know there is a speed sensor on the differential....
Edit: Just realized you're probably talking about the specialty nut socket?
EDIT 2: forgot to answer the question. I believe on these trucks the abs code is pulled by jumping a connector separate from the OBD1. I know on the vans it is under the glove box and I believe you jump the grey connector to ground and turn the key on. It will flash teh abs light the same as a CEL flashing
