Instruction manual
My son is 24 and deployed on a carrier to the mid-east right now, but we are able to stay in touch via Facebook messenger. He's an E-5 aviation mech that works on hydraulic systems & the body of F18's. He recently expressed regret that he didn't spend more time with me working on cars & trucks, and he asked me if I could find an auto repair book that he could read for more instruction. He of course knows the basics of changing tires, changing fluids, and some simple electrical checks because I wouldn't let him leave home without those basic skills.
Wondering if any of you could recommend a good gas auto instructional book that's geared for a guy wanting to take the next step after basic stuff (like you might find in a Auto Repair for Dummies book) to intermediate items. He'd particularly like a book that has study questions at the end of each chapter or section which reinforce the main topics and force him to retain what he reads. I've found some ASE study guides on Amazon, but one (for example) put out by Delmar has reviews saying there were a lot of mistakes. Hard for me to figure out which book is truly a good one well suited for what he wants.
Would really like to hear your recommendations please.
Thanks,
Mike
I have the Mitchell (delmar) full set of study guides collecting dust in the basement. Copyrighted 2006. They only have minimal instructional info but lots of questions, with explanations of the answers.
The set is fairly heavy, but if you're interested tell me where you're at and I can look into shipping it to you. I'm out of the auto industry and have no intentions of going back. Have some other books I can go though too. Those are from 2002-2004.

I'd like to keep this to one book/manual for a couple reasons. Shipping to him takes a long time, and if I make it bigger, I'm afraid it could add to the length of time it will take. Most importantly, since he's on an aircraft carrier, he is extremely limited in his personal space. So his rack and locker space are all he has. Is one of the Delmar manuals a general automotive one that would give him the overall coverage on a vehicle? I'll be many of the manuals you have specialize in specific areas like electrical, and I think those wouldn't be what he needs at this point.
I live in Kodiak, Alaska. Zip code it 99619. If you have a manual that fits the bill, I'll PM my address to you, and I can send you a check or paypal you the money for shipping.
Once again, I really appreciate the offer.

Study Guides - ASE
Obviously this is the readers digest version of Auto work to pass a test - might look at the actual course books.
