Rear USB Jack

So this is my little mod of the day, removed 12v power port and replaced with double USB jack, I think it will be much better for my kids always charging devices.

Got a part number? The cigarette lighters are useless for me. Having 4 of them is just ridiculous. I would much rather just have USB ports everywhere.

Looks nice!! Is this a Job 1 truck? I think the Job 2 has more USB in back.

Looks like a Blue Sea System #1016 (or maybe a #1018) without the bezel.

HTH,

Yes it is the 1016, I have found the plug in versions to be less then reliable so I went this route, very easy install and works great

Yes a Job 1 truck

Sure very easy:

1. Pull up on rear cup holder to release it.
2. Unplug the 12 Volt power port.
3. Using a very small flat blade screw driver there are 2 small square holes inside the power port, push the screw driver into these one at at time releasing the plastic tabs (this is the hardest part)
4. Carefully wiggle the metal part of the power port out of the plastic surround
5. Now that you have just a hole in the console back, you will see 2 small tabs, cut or grind these until you have just a circle.
6. With the key in the off position cut off the harness connector from the harness and crimp on 2 insulated spade terminals.
7. Install the new USB jack, screw the retaining nut on from inside the console.
8. Connect the wires to the jack and test.

Should take you 10 minutes tops if you have the terminals and tools handy

Not to be the buzz kill here, but get a USB 3.0 or 3.1 port. It charges 80% faster than 2.0, also keeps up w power hungry devices like iPad pro's.

The port shown above will not do this, it will start draining the devices battery on hard use and cannot keep up with the newer power hungry devices.

OK, just looked up the specs and the OP's Blue Sea USB charger is putting out 2.1 amps at 5V. Apple products don't require more than that. Looks like a good fit to me unless I'm missing something?

The Blue Sea #1045 can do 4.8A total vs 2.1A total from the #1016 or #1018.

Any other product suggestions?

Jim / crewzer
