Returning to the SD..I picked up my 2017 SD F250 King Ranch in Blue Jeans/Caribou two tone. From day of order to pickup was 7 weeks to the day. So last year after 6 years with my 2011 SD 6.7 and a fair amount of body rust (I’m a northeaster with salt destruction) I decided that it was time to part ways with the SD because we no longer had the big fiver to haul around and a comfy 2016 F150 Platinum with the 3.5 EcoBoost could handle the 6000 lb sled trailer, heck its rated for 11500 lbs!..While the diesel engine speaks for itself the major loss I forgot was vehicle mass, that F150 at 4800 lbs got tossed all over the road from a 6000 lb dual axle 4 place aluminum sled trailer (that is set up properly) so after a short 4 months with the 2016 F150 I was off to the dealer to order the new 17 SD. For all those still on the fence, take the plunge! I’ve been there, been gone (very briefly) and now I’m back to the SD. The new/improved 6.7 engine is a blast of power and much quieter than the previous 2011 SD. The KR is major sweet on the inside, I was a bit hesitant on the Blue Jeans color because it’s different than the previous Dark Blue (which I loved) but after seeing it in person with the lower Caribou color its very sharp. I got it rust proofed and undercoated through the dealer to help our salt issue. Put on the Ford SD hood protector, while it covers the SD logo on the hood, the smoked protector has SD embossed into it. Only waiting for the Ford Trifold Canvas Tonneu cover. Enjoy the pics.
Looks great. I have a platinum and I hate my white bumpers as the rock damage is horrendous and very noticeable, the chrome bumpers are way tougher. Will probably change mine in a year or two. I had them 3M clear wrapped at the dealer before taking delivery but it isn't helping.
Agreed on the painted bumper issues that is why I wanted the Chrome bumper. I wanted the Platinum SD but as far as I could tell their wasn't an option in the Platinum package for it so the only way to get a chrome bumper was to order anything other than the Platinum and build it up with options to have the nicer amenities.
Yeah I knew going into it and expected it, just from seeing other trucks from previous years, thought I would try the film but that was a waste of time.
Great looking truck! Love that color combo. I am considering a move back to a SD from an F150 as you did. I used to have a 2009 KR SD with the 6.4. It was such a pleasure to tow with but the 6.4 ended up being a ticking time bomb. I pull a 24ft enclosed car trailer at about 8K lbs. The ecoboost in the F150 is phenomenal, but the overall towing experience is just not as stable.
Congratulations! Awesome color combo! My build will look just like it, not a King Ranch, but a Lariat. Please show interior shots when you get a chance!
Another nice looking KR. If and when I get around to ordering, it will probably be a KR with the chrome package but without the two tone. But just can decide if I want to give up 18 inches of garage space to go with a CC as compared to the SC. Al
