Has anyone attempted to do any kind of software update via wifi? As advertised, this is supposed to be a nice feature but I cannot get my truck to do anything except search endlessly for an update. It never connects with anything that I can tell. When I tell it to check for updates, the nice little circle segments just keep going round and round. But nothing ever happens. After twenty or thirty minutes I just give up.
I had already done everything the video suggests, but I'm rarely around wifi that I can connect to. So when I'm near my office I've tried (once connected) to "Check for Updates" but nothing happens but a seemingly endless revolving of the circles. Also the written instructions with the video says the truck does not have to be running, but I assume it still has to be in at least ACC mode. It can't connect to wifi if it's completely off. Is that correct?
Mine connects to my home network in my garage but like everyone else, it just spins endlessly when I manually check for an update. Ah well, it's supposed to do it's updates automatically so I guess I'll just let it do it's thing in the background. Maybe someday I'll get an update completed notification.
I'm thinking it must. If not it could not do automatic updates? But that's just a guess. The only other thing I can think of is the auto updates only occur if it's connected to the Ford app on your phone so it can do them while driving?
It checks for updates when truck has just been turned off. So you park in your drive way for the night and hop out. The truck checks and downloads while it's technically off but it does not stay on round the clock checking.
The updates only effects sync 3 and have no effect on the running of the truck. You still need to bring it in for service updates. Since it's a new design I imagine there will be a few in its life span.
Those words are right from the service manager. I am not sure about the circles thing. I turned it off first thing when I got the truck. Still think there is a chances to exploit the truck through the wifi connection.
When I initially connected mine to WiFi in my driveway I got the endless circle too. I just ignored it. A couple days later I got an update installed notification when I started the truck. So...I guess it finally connected while sitting in the driveway. I've also been using Ford Pass (trying to anyway...still very Beta), which I seem to remember reading will also facilitate updates when connected to Sync3. So, maybe it was FP or the Wifi? I don't know how big the update files was but if it's anything like a cellphone update I'd hate to think FordPass is downloading a 1GB file over my not-so-unlimited Unlimited cell data plan.
I wish there were someway on Ford's website to see if there ever are any updates. The way it is you just have to blindly trust that the truck is doing what it's supposed to do in auto mode, even though it seems not to do anything when manually prompted.
When did you get your update? When was your truck built? Mine was October 2016 and I've never gotten an updated message. If you have then that would indicate an update is floating around out there.
The first couple of times mine tried to update it just spun endlessly. This was at my Dad's on his wireless network. We all have the same network name and password.
So when it got to my house I had to plug the SSID and password back into the truck even though it found the network. And after that it spun for half a second and updated the time of the last check.
I've tried using my iPhone as a hotspot. Again it connects and spins but no banana. Nothing seems to connect like two of you have seen. Something is wrong with the way mine is setup I guess.
When I got my truck I tried to do an update, got the spinning thing and was unsure what was going on. At some point in the future, not sure how long few days maybe, tried again and it said I had the current software. So I just assumed it worked. Haven't tried since.
