I wish there were someway on Ford's website to see if there ever are any updates. The way it is you just have to blindly trust that the truck is doing what it's supposed to do in auto mode, even though it seems not to do anything when manually prompted.
If you use the Ford Owners site it should tell you once you perform and upload a vehicle health report if your truck is running the most current version (assuming you're not connected via WiFi). I just checked my Ford Owners account and it confirms my truck installed an update on 28FEB. It also says "It's possible you have updated SYNC 3 using Wi-Fi within the past week"...interesting.
I just tried the Ford Pass app. When I tried to link it to my truck I hit a roadblock. I can't finish the process because I can't turn on Mobile Apps. I think this needs to be turned on but when I tap the slider it won't turn on? This is the screen I'm referring to. Anyone else have trouble with this?

Yes. Turn off your BT and then turn it back on. Then try mobile apps again. The FordPass app is very glitchy, and Ford knows this judging from the number of updates they've pushed lately. At least they're trying. I have to reconfigure mine if I want it to work just about daily. Also, make sure you don't have Android Mobile enabled.
I'm on an iPhone. Should I disable CarPlay or does that not conflict? I can't get anywhere if I can't enable mobile apps on the truck first and the slider won't turn on.

Not sure but, go ahead and try and see if it works. Make sure the BT connection is active and connected. The slider on mine only does what yours is doing if I'm disconnected from BT.
Yep, just confirmed it's one or the other. Ford Pass or any other Sync 3 mobile app will not work if your using Apple CarPlay via USB. It's one or the other. I likely won't use either but good to know how they work. Thanks for the help.
If you don't have the Connect modem what is the purpose and functionality of FordPass? I have it but it doesn't seem real valuable. Also, I'll do a Vehicle health report and see if I can discover anything that way. Thanks.

Ford is trying to get Ford Pass to be an interactive vehicle info and control app. There are already some ford vehicles, the Escape, Fuzion and a couple others I think, where it replaces the need for the remote access GSM modem and the app that supports it. Ford Pass can be used on those vehicles to start the engine, lock/unlock, and get several other vehicle status parameters. When it works it tells me how much fuel I have in my tank via BT connectivity with Sync3. Also Ford is going to rollout an OBD adapter that will allow the FordPass app to do all the stuff it's planned to do on our trucks on pre-Sync3 vehicles all the way back to 2010 or 2011 model year. Just from my experience with it since getting my truck 2 weeks ago it's still very much a work in progress...but they're working on it diligently based on how often they've been updating the app.
Someone earlier mentioned running a vehicle health report which would say if there's been an update. I had that on my 2014 but I cannot find Vehicle Health Report on my 2017 Sync 3. Where is it?
And I figured it out...looks like these new Sync3 2017's don't do the same thing as my 2014 Sync MyTouch system when it comes to vehicle health reports. Odd.
