Post 87 Econoline DIED

Hello,

Just wanted to thank all the people that contribute to this forum, and the admin who runs it. Because of your time and effort, I was able to discern and correct my van's problem.

'87 Ford E-150, with a 5.0 liter and 4 speed auto. Work van, driven hard with (yes really!) over 300k miles on it.

Driving from a job site the other morning, and it just died. No shudder, no noise...just quit like someone flipped a switch.

Read many posts here in regards to no starts..(it would crank, but not fire) and decided to do the TFI and Ignition Coil. Did both...and it fired immediatly.

The van is tired....I know! But she keeps on ruuuunnnnning!

Best to all...thanks again!

JK

I'm glad you're now running. I'm not. Same symptom, same replacements....distributor, coil, AND icm module on the side of the distributor. I am now getting spark, but it still won't crank. I'm exploring possible circuit problem in the neutral switch. I believe the fuel pump is inactivated. On the other hand, it won't crank even if I spray "starter fluid" into the throttle body. When I (also) replaced the fuel filter, I noticed it had little pressure. I'd be working on it now, but the weather is bad. The truck is mostly used in the yard...lately for pulling down trees. I did notice a motor mount broken yesterday when I was investigating the neutral switch. would appreeciate any HELPFUL comments.'91 f-1504x4, 5.8 w/auto
