99 Ranger problem and question
Hi, I have a 99 Ranger XLT, and have a couple questions (search found nothing of help)
1. When I put it any 4wd mode and go in reverse, if I turn the wheel 1/2 turn either way it kind of binds up (feels like I'm trying to back onto a curb).....I have heard from a couple people this is normal, is it true? and is there any way to stop it?
I am getting a 3" body lift shortly and need to know if I have a mazda transmission, how do I tell? (it is a 5 speed).

When you use 4WD, it will seem harder to steer and drive. This is normal, because the front end and rear end are locked together, but they are trying to move at different speeds in a turn. Also, reverse is geared higher than 1st, so that's why it will seem like you have to give it more throttle to move in reverse.
It's normal, just remember not to use 4WD on pavement unless it's snowing or icy.
I'm pretty sure your tranny is the Mazda M50D. I don't think Ford still uses two different manual trannys.
