i have a 1978 F150 short bed standard cab. the hinge springs are broken. do i need to change the entire hinge or can i get the springs and put them in?
Springs can be disconnected buy hand...grab, man up and pull, un-hook the outer end 1st.As far as getting just replacement springs...? I have a few spares on parts trucks in case you can not locate new.
LMC truck just sells the whole hinge with the spring. do you have two springs for a 1978 F150 standard cab? Let me know. or if you know some where i can buy the springs and hopefully install them without taking the hinges off.
I remember seeing someone on FTE that installed new springs by placing one side of the spring in a vise and rocking it back and forth and placing washers between each coil. This will extend the spring out far enough to install them easily. Once installed just lower and lift the hood multiple times until all the washers fall out. This seems the easiest and safest way to do it. Just some FYI for when you get them.
