I understand that it all depends on what you want to see and do, but how long would you recommend we stay in the area? Some things are going to be off limits as our youngest is 6 so things like the Segway tours and horseback riding are out due to age limits. Definitely planning to do selfguided tour using audio cd. Only going to be able to look at so many monuments and statues before kids are going to get bored, that is why I am wandering if 2 days of sightseeing would be enough or should we plan a third day there? Also, how much do they charge you for the cd at the visitor center? And is it worth it to haul our pedal bikes down or is there no where to ride other than right in whatever campground we stay in?
We usually split the audio tour into 2 days since the kids can get pretty bored after a while. Devil's Den is a great place for the kids on the tour and will wear them out pretty good. Having an extra day to check out the rest of Gettysburg and New Oxford would be a good idea. There are a lot of antique places in the area if that interests you at all. I think the audio tour cd was like $40.
We see families with older kids riding bikes on the battlefield roads all the time. It is a high traffic area so maybe not a good idea with the youngest. With everything that is around, I don't think you will much time for bike riding.
Wow...lots of bad looking reviews for some (or most) of those campgrounds. Penny and I (with family) have stayed at Gettysburg Campground for prob over 20 years.... we love it but it is a kind of rustic dirt roaded campground. I don't have a prob getting my 30+ foot 5er thru the woods.
It does have WiFi with repeater antennas for the back located campers. But it is still WiFi shared - so it depends on how many are using it at the same time.... BUT ... I don't go there to use the computer either! Sites aren't perfectly leveled but very usable. No 50amp service in the back either but plenty up front.
I have stayed at Drummer Boy and it was OK.... but as I was there with a GROUP and after season (September), prices were a little cheaper and spots were more premium.
