In the market for a used enclosed cargo trailer

16' to 24', depending on price and condition. My tow gear is good for the heavy stuff back there and I already have the 2 5/16" ball.

My garage is gone after selling the house, so now I need a portable tool shed for a few years. Suggestions welcome, as are PMs of available trailers.

Your neighbor would smack me stupid for this idea, but since it's only temporary, and it doesn't sound like you're actually going to move it much, just one trip I guess when you find the new casa, you could do what my friend did and find an ancient 24' camper really cheap and gut it. Just junk it when you're done. It will of course look like crap, hence your neighbor's reaction. My friend had a farm ...

Hit the port tugly, and buy a salted/damaged cargo container. Sold one to my neighbor to stuff his trains in😉

Two caveats here, given my situation.

1. I'm on the shore of the Columbia river, in a pool behind a hydroelectric dam. That means the EPA, Dept of Fish and Wildlife, the P.U.D., a bunch of other local, county, state, and federal agencies, and even the Boy Scouts of America (not kidding here) are out to get me if I put anything "building-ish" within 75 feet of the water. I mentioned Boy Scouts... there are "contracted" groups that periodically photograph the shoreline. If while comparing old photographs with new ones they spot a difference in the shoreline makeup or structures (even temporary ones) near the shore... black sedans show up. I am not kidding. My neighbor had to do $30,000 worth of remediation to compensate for beautifying their rock shore and upgrading their dock without going through the 3-year impact environmental study. Gotta love red tape.

2. I'm renting... and my landlord is my neighbor. It's at this point I should mention these shoreline homes start at $400K each... and that's for a manufactured home with no dock. An enclosed cargo trailer is one thing, but literal trailer trash can raise more than eyebrows.

I can only think of C list and talking to people as you are. You never know what can come up. Where are you looking to buy a home?

I use Search Tempest... it casts a very wide net over C list. I've found hundreds of trailers within range (hooray for dealerships slathering C list with their ads), but none the right size, condition, or price... so far. I'm trying to keep the cost down to or below $4000, yet get it over 16' without a rusted out frame, brakes, suspension, and wheels.

I never shopped for one of those but it seems to me that items like that are usually not in too good of condition when they're being sold. Like trying to buy a nice, slightly used Kubota tractor, you'll have to find just the right situation where one comes available.

The bugger of it is... nobody is lowering their price for the condition of the trailer. I have to suss out what's crap and what isn't by parsing the ad. These things are interspersed over a very large area, and I'd hate to aim for trailer X 2 hours to the East when trailer Y 4 hours to the West is a much better value.

I'm certain that there's a Load-Rite trailer forum out there anxiously awaiting your valued commentary!

Are there any storage locations you could use instead? We have plenty that look like garages around, that you drive right up to, some with electric.

Slightly different animal but same deal when I was equipment trailer shopping everything used was almost new prices or JUNK. You might be better off in the long run buying new and reselling when not needed.......

As many of you can see, it's a bugger to get anything of the right size and condition for less than $4000. Here is a [LINK] of how I search for things on CL.
