Frame Problems/axle wrap
Alright people. I have a 1994 f150 4x4. 300-6 and 5 spd, 3.55 R&Psets Trak-Lok my problem is that my frame is cracking at the back inbetween the spring hangers on the drivers side. I have nasty axlewrap and wheelhop when the tires are spinning, and I need to know how to fix the crack without puting a sleeve on it, and also how to stop the repair from cracking (it's been welded once, but the weld cracked) I think it has something to do with the fact that when the Traklok kicks in it sends what I've worked out to be almost 5000FT LBS of torque to the gripping wheel, which starts my axlewrap problem... I need this fixed before it gets any worse, as I caqn not aford to replace or rebuild the vehicle. Any help is greatly appreciated I

When they welded it, did they drill holes on either end of the crack to stop it? Usually you drill a hole on each end of the crack so that it can't continue, then weld it. The traction lok doesn't "kick in" it's always on. It doesn't sound to me like the crack isn't your problem. You see, axle wrap is caused from torque. When you get on the gas, you apply torque to the rear end. When you do that, the axle wants to rotate up as well as completely turn the axle in the direction of rotation (as if you had a pencil and put the tip through a hole in the middle of a ruler. If you turn the pencil, the ruler wants to rotate too). When the axle rotates up, it bends the leaf springs into an "s" shape, and that is axle wrap. Wheel hop is a result of that, and thats why you get the violent shaking. Worn out shocks will make it worse, but do not let the truck do this as you will break things. It doesn't sound to me like a crack in the frame would contribute to this.
