That picture showing the pealing yellow coating on your carb looks like someone dipped it in shellac.
Definitely not something that was put on there by ford. Kirk
I finally got it all off but it wasn't easy. Had to scuff it up with sand paper and then dip it a couple of more times in the chem-dip. Finished off with some fine steel wool to remove the last few specks. I've decided I'll give Eastwood carb paint a try. Probably will look good at first but I'm not sure how resistant it will be to gasoline, even though they advertise that it is.
Safe spaces and coloring books will be provided by a special Snowflake Response Team. C'mon man, give up the goods!
Ok, but some may have to get out the coloring books. After the aforementioned soak, once dry the casting go into my bead blaster, followed by a lot of compressed air to get the beads out of passages, etc. That is followed by more carb cleaner in a can, again for removal of any errant beads. Next, the cringe factor; a scrubbing in 10~% phosphoric acid with a brass toothbrush. That is followed by a bath in a dichromate solution.

Bought some Eastwood Carb Renew II and gave it a try. Went on easily and I think it looks pretty good. It remains to be seen if it performs as advertised and stands up to gasoline.
Looks great! I have one i'm going to redo. Can you show me more of that inlet fitting for your fuel line? All of mine are female and they would interfere with that screw holding the top onto the float bowl. I can't really figure out what is supposed to go there.

I'm also trying to figure out the connection for the fuel line. The inlet fitting in the picture of the carb was given to me by a mechanic who services the machinery at work. It fits the opening but I'm not sure how the fuel line from the pump would be attach. I probably should have removed it before I took the picture because I don't plan to use it. It's on the right in the picture below.
The next fittings, 2nd from right, were used at the fuel pump end by the P.O. and the one next to it was used at the carburetor. They were connected with a a rubber fuel line.
I bought the compression fittings on the left from Chuck several years ago and they are what I hope to use. I just have to buy the metal fuel line and bend it into shape.
bhalemail, I was looking back at some pictures I had saved regarding the fuel line and thought these might help. I think they were posted by someone on FTE but I don't remember who.

Isn't it the rubber fuel line that goes from the fuel pump to the carb supposed to fit there? The rubber line comes with the appropriate fitting on it.
I was thinking of buying the carb Renew II but decided against it as I was ready to put it on my engine and I was in a hurry. I cleaned it with steel wool and then sprayed it with heat resistant engine enamel clear.

A rubber fuel line works fine if you're not trying to keep it original. The truck came from the factory with a steel line - *9369 below.

Your approach probably works just as well as the Carb Renew. I think it's a decent product but the before and after pictures of mine don't look that different.
