By-pass ac compressor??

I am stranded in AR and trying to get to GA. My ac compressor just took a crap. new serpintine belt I just installed today is loose. Is there any way to bypass the ac compressor and just get a smaller serpintine belt just so I can drive the truck?? 97 F350 Dually Diesel. Please help!!

The compressor bearings siezed and then they shredded themselves. I have copper shavings all over the engine and the pulley is loose.

i dont see why you would burn up the engine if you have a belt on it

As long as your turning the water pump, how is the motor going to burn up?? I'm not sure that a belt off of a non-ac motor would be the right fit but it would be a place to start, size wise. Turning the air pump is a necessary thing unless your very strong for the steering and the brakes.

Can't you just throw on a new clutch assembly and get home? It's a lot cheaper than a new compressor. It won't hurt anything. Most mechanics these days don't have a clue how to replace the clutch probably though.

I don't think that'd be a good idea unless you want to permanently dump the A/C. The compressor is probably fine and if you remove it you'd have to get the A/C recharged.

its a cheap fix to get home. he said the compressor was locked, so it needs to be recharged any way.

There is a bearing for the pulley that is outside the refrigerant space. Just because the pulley is lose and it shed metal doesn't mean the compressor itself is bad.
