Remote Starter..Ford Tech?

I'm picking a truck up this week. It was an in stock truck and has everything I wanted except the Remote Starter.

Any one done this upgrade with the Ford OEM product?

Ford Techs, can it be done without a lot of aggravation?

It is just plug and play and then IDS or Forscan needs to turn on the feature. After that you are all done. Easy thing to do.

Looks like this is something I can maybe do myself. The dealer wants $285+ for parts and $150 to install it.

What should I be paying for the kit?

I don't know anything about the "IDS or Forscan" mentioned above. I had old 2011 technology. Might need a little help with that

I don't think so. You can install it yourself but I don't think you can activate it with forscan. The dealer has to go online I think with ford to activate it. There is cell service involved. I don't think you have to nesecerrally go to the dealership but you have to give them the numbers that are on a tag that comes with the remote access so they can activate it.

There is no cell service involved in the remote start. If you start adding the 'Remote Access' then yes, there would be a cell number & PIN involved.

If the dealer wants to charge you $150 to install the remote start system, I would just buy it and do it myself, then get the dealer to activate it. It is fully plug and play, it would take literally 10 minutes to do. Not worth $150 in labour charges.

I've been keeping up with all the remote start threads.
I would like to add remote start to my 2017 SD XLT premium pkg. , but not until I can find a system that will do what I want.
I want a RS system that I can have RS , door lock / unlock , and a ignition key all on the same fob.
I could get by with RS and door lock / unlock on 1 fob.
Not going to spend $400 on a fob! I've read some things might work ,but haven't seen where someone used this part number and it worked.

Im also trying to figure out if RS on an XLT will control any climate functions ?

You should just look at an aftermarket system. They can incorporate anything you want, many have 2 way feedback, and can have 10 times the distance than factory system. My buddy installs several different brands at his accessories shop. We get them put into our work trucks. They can easily have a 1 mile range or more.

Will these turn on the heat and rear window defroster in an XLT that doesn't have auto climate control ?

It should just turn on whatever you had on when you shut the truck off. I doubt the mirror defrosters but however you left it should come back that way with remote start.

If you have a skilled enough installer that is up-to-date on vehicles, options, etc he should be able to do whatever you want.
It can't adjust the climate control to defrost if you left it on the floor setting, but if you leave the heater on when you shut off the truck, it will start up. He can add triggers for heated seat, etc.
Again, just find the RIGHT guy.

To my surprise the Ford system does this on my XLT without even setting the controls, when I get in after remote starting the heat is blasting and the rear defrost is on, after I turn the key on it reverts to the settings I had left it on and I do have the manual climate controls. It also keeps the headlamps off as I leave them on auto. There is also a reg/green led on the key to tell you the status of a start. I have owned many different systems over the years and this one is very well thought out
