I just put a spankin' new set of 285/75/16 Goodyear MTRs on my stock chromed steel wheels at Discount Tire. The first time I road tested them, they almost vibrated me off the road. I took them back immediately. It turns out that the guy was supposed to bolt some adapter hub plate thing behind them before putting them on the spin balancer. He rebalanced them using this hub plate and they got significantly better but not vibration free. He told me that mud tires generally aren't all that perfect in their roundness. He said the MTRs have "a normal amount of irregular tire movement on the balancer for a mud tire." To me, it sounds like he's blowing smoke up my bung! Anyway, I still have a slight side-to-side wiggle in the steering wheel from about 55 to 65 mph. Is this guy right? Is this just a normal mud tire thing?
No he is pretty much full of it! Mtr's usually balance out extremely well, obviously the bigger the tire the more chance of vibration, but definately not on the size you are talking about. Take the tires back and ask for replacements and be sure your wheels are ok. Good luck!
i have to agree with badd, i had a set of 33x12.50r15s on my old 90 ford bronco, they ballenced great and at speeds of 75-80 highway driving i never felt a shake, or at any speed, the road noise was not a noticable as i thought they would be but i loved them, i would have put them on my 350sd but they dont fit the stock rims.
