Which truck?

I am looking at a new 2016 f350, sticker is $50500 vs. a 2017 f250, sticker $47785. Both are gas. I have a 2011 diesel right now with 115k on it.

Here is my question. I can but the 2016 for about $3000 less. Sticker is almost 3K more on it.

What is the better deal? Is there anything different other than the body material that I need to be looking at?

Hands down the 2017. Much better truck. That 2016 was designed in the mid-1990s. You'll make up the difference in resale later.

The 2017 is cheaper and new model......are the prices swapped? I would say 2017 no matter what. I'm guessing xlt 17? Lariat 16?

I don't think you will get too many on the 2017 SD section saying buy the 2016. Most of us with the later 2014-2016 SD upgraded So our payments would be going to the new style truck instead of the 20 year old one...

I was actually surprised how many new 2016 trucks my local dealer had (10-15) when I went looking at the 2017's a month ago.

Both are XLT. I have the window sticker for the 2016. Dealer/Salesman is to email me the sticker for the '17 in the morning. One difference I know of for sure is the newer truck does not have running boards that I need to add.

For some reason they are offering more trade for my truck on the 2016.

Since you have a Powerstroke now, all I can do is advise on my own experiences. I drove diesels until 2015, when I traded my 2014 PS in. I grabbed a 6.2 off the lot. Loved the truck but was not happy with how it towed. Did quite a bit of research and found the 4.30 gear is where the 6.2 performs best. I ordered my 2017 F250 with the 4.30's. Now, I'm really happy with the 6.2.
2016 to the 2017: some of the best improvements to me, are for the 6.2. It got a bump in torque and they moved the max torque down to 3800 rpms vs the previous 4500. (This I think is awesome). The 250 also gets the 6R100 tranny designed just for the 6.2 vs having the previous diesel tranny.
So, get the 2017 F250 with 4.30's.

There is either extra trade in cash via rebate or incentive if you buy a 2016,(likely) or they are playing a numbers game.

As of now the dealer didn't send me the window sticker on the 2017.

I went to two more dealers this morning. The first didn't want to trade very bad. He was off about $5000 on the trade from the first dealer.

Went to the second dealer and he has a 2017 that is almost $3000 more than the first dealer. I'm buying it for $1800 less than the firsts dealer's 2017. It's going to be ready for delivery on Monday.

RainDesert: My towing is mostly under 6000lb. I have the 5th wheel that is 11k but towing on it is pretty much limited to 40-50 miles. I kind of think the 3.73 will be better for what I do most, drive up and down the road. I hope anyway

Yeah probably will be fine as long as you aren't going to run larger tires. Interstate unloaded driving is the only place the 3.73 wins in anything, and that's good for about 1-ish mpg at 70+mph.

Man if the 3.73s are only doing 1-ish mpg better unloaded on at highway speeds, it blows my mind that the dealerships around here only stock 6.2 trucks with 3.73s. From all the research I've done on here there's no doubt in my mind 4.30s are the way to go but I'd sure like to test drive one.

I am in the same boat, but have decided for now to go with the 2017, but the 2016 is working my brain and I still have time to make the switch…

2016 Platinum Crew Cab, 6.2L, 6 ¾ Bed, Ruby Red, 4.30 gears, snow plow prep, bed mat, body side molding for $51,172.50 OTD

or

2017 Lariat Crew Cab, 6.2L, 6 ¾ Bed, 4.30 gears, Upfitter switches, Tailgate Step, Lariat Value Package for $49,167.50 OTD

What do you guys think?

Newer and Cheaper are different trucks in my case.

The 2016 is more money on the window sticker but $3000 less bottom line. Taking the window sticker on the '16 vs the '17 bottom line is the '16 is $5000+ cheaper.

As you can see in a later post I've found another truck (17) that I have decided to purchase but now I'm having second thoughts. It has the FX4 package on it. I drove it but only on smoother highway and now I'm a bit concerned with the ride quality. I don't need the off road stuff so if it's going to make a major ride difference then I'm probably going to have to look a little more.

I am scheduled to pick the truck up tomorrow but I guess I'd better take it on a little rougher roads first. I'd hate to buy a truck and then have to put $$ into it right away to improve the ride.

Guess I misunderstood. I wouldn't worry too much about the FX4 and don't think it would cause a major ride difference. I understand it's only different shocks from other versions, which you can swap quickly and relatively cheaply too for better shocks. You do get the downhill assist with the package which can be a nice feature in the right circumstances, offroad or not. But you could always replicate the same control manually as well, I'm sure. It's all personal preference, really. Good luck with your decision.

it's not even close to me. The 17 is far more technically advanced and it's capabilities are far better than the previous models.
But do this, park the trucks next to each other, I did it and within seconds my decision was made, it was a no brainer. The style of the 17 makes the 16 look ancient.
