Have a friend with a '99 F150 4.6 that is throwing a code. She had it scanned, was told "missfire cylinder 1". Mechanic replaced the spark plug and cleared the code. CEL came on again the next day, had it scanned again, same thing. Could it be a bad coil? Ideas? Thanks for the help!
Swap that coil to another cylinder and see if it follows. Go to eBay and get a cheap set you'd be surprise they are actually alright, I've used them on the fleet, and on my wife's Excursion and they last.

X2 on moving the COP to another cylinder to see if the problem follows.
You can get a basic code reader at Amazon for $12.95 - Oxgord CAN OBD II Scanner Tool.
Depending on how far away the mechanic is the savings in gas might pay for the reader after a couple of trips.
The spark plug probably wasn't bad since the code came back.
My guess would be the boot has deteriorated to the point it is arcing thru.
The coil may be fine, they last a lot longer than the boots.
How many miles since the boots were last changed?
NAPA Belden 702418 boots are around $6/ea and work well.
Denso 671-0001 boots are $30 for 10 on ebay which would give you 2 spares.
Denso 673-6000 COPs are $26.50/ea if you need the coil and boot.
