This is a follow up post from the Darwin Award Nominee post I made a few days ago.
Just been informed by the dealership that Ford will not warranty the engine if they only flush the fuel tank and lines. Ford service manual says to replace the entire fuel system whenever the fuel system is contaminated with DEF. That includes all 8 injectors and high pressure pump and all lines. Insurance company is arguing with the dealership saying all of that is not necessary. I'm going to insist that the insurance company pay to have what Ford recommends per their service manual or they can total the truck. I'm not driving the truck without a warranty on the Diesel engine. My extended warranty is worthless also if they don't follow the repair guidelines. I'm probably going have to get an attorney involved in this matter.
Insurance only wants to flush the tanks and fuel lines and replace the filters.
I just want my truck repaired per the guidelines from the Ford manual so my original warranties remain in effect
Wow for that small amount that you put in there that's too bad
Do you think it would have been the same outcome if you didn't start it up to move it from the pumps
Slightly off the topic but what type of insurance covers user error or a situation like this? I'm just curious if it's an add-on cuz many of us might slip up and do this. Sorry about your luck and this *****ty situation!

Just goes to show you not to take it to the dealer for this... there have been many cases like this (and even worse) where just draining and flushing is all that's needed most times.
That really stinks. I'm sorry you have to go through all that.
I talked to my State Farm agent, and she said that they wouldn't cover this type of claim. She said they would cover it if someone vandalized the truck, but not if I did the damage. Either you're lucky, or I need different insurance!
I used to have state farm they don't cover alot of what other companies cover. There is alot in the fine print. State farm won't even cover windshield chips or replacement. Alot of other insurances will. I always had good service from them but they do lack in some of the extras.
I have to admit, I've done the same thing. I was leaving really early to go hunting in the am (still very tired), and dog-gone it the DEF light came on. As soon as the nozzle hit the fuel tank I realized what I did. I only got maybe a cup or two in. The good thing is I didn't even start the truck. I popped the hood and took the pos+ lead off the battery and then turned the key on so I could unlock the steering wheel. Had the truck flatbed towed to ford dealer where they dropped the tank and flushed it. That was a $500 mistake. No issues though. didn't even bother with insurance...
But you have a much bigger issue. It does happen, my dealer said they see it all the time.

The counter is that if you do ever have an issue and it was caused by the DEF, you're on the hook there. You're effectively putting the warranty at risk, and I promise you some of that $8k sale price is to cover the warranty.
Third picture does qualify that it was turning on the ignition that forces all this to the HP system, though still would require showing of contamination. I wouldn't want to chance it myself. It sounds like your insurance is covering you (little difference between this and any error of judgement that causes damage, I dropped a canoe on my brothers Triumph Spitfire. Damage caused by human error is a big part of insurance claims.

State Farm covers glass if you have it in your policy. You need to read the policy.
From my personal experience I would suggest you let the insurance company know that you will be hiring a 3rd party adjuster and that you will want to go to mediation. This process worked to get my fuel contamination claim fully covered on my 2014.

Thanks for the information. Metropolitan is having some fuel contamination expert to take sample at various locations on the truck for some unknown reason. I told the lead adjuster today that if they expect me have the truck taken to another shop it would be another Ford dealer. The best friend I have right now is my service advisor who is insisting there is only one way to repair this and that is to comply with Ford's advice.
