AC outlet.....

Had to get a new piece of equipment today and needed to charge the power packs. I should add here I have never used an AC outlet in a vehicle before. There is a small LED light by the 12v outlet and the AC outlet. The 12V outlet was working fine. Light was solid. With the 12V disconnected the light blinks. I plugged in the battery pack charger and nothing. The light would just keep blinking. No power on the charger. We tried the outlet in the back also and same thing - no power.

Any ideas?

The blinking light is a fault mode indication. See OM page 169 for reset instructions.

Thanks for info. Tried that and it only blinks when the charger is plugged in. I am wondering if it's the charger. I noticed the OM says it might not play well with devices that require a constant power supply. Im not sure what that means but the charger is a lithium 18V battery charger that charges within 30 minutes.

I did plug in another 12v power pack charger and it seemed to work fine.

Some battery chargers don't like the DC/AC converters.. I doubt for put in pure-sine wave converters..

85W and it has something called Intelliport. Im still leaning to the stable power source or lack thereof wigging out the charger. I don't see any indication that the charger is getting power however. No lights just the amber Ford LED blinking when it is plugged in.

OK - The AC port is working fine. Household fans and Dewalt plain 12V battery charger work fine. It does not like Smart chargers. Wiggs out with Ryobi and Makita Smart chargers. Throws it into blink mode. Unplug them light goes solid again.

Unhappy

Yeah, I've seen and heard of this problem many times. Our new truck will have the 400W MSW inverter under the right rear passenger seat. I may eventually look into replacing the factory unit with a pure sine wave inveter such as the Morningstar SureSine.

I see a use for one of the upfitter switches!

you ever notice how some of these device spark when you first plug them in? They have a high in rush of current, probably tripling the limit on the inverter.

P.S. I remembered we had a portable 12V to AC power inverter from the 2001 we just sold when we got the 2017. Just to see what would happen, I plugged that into the 12V supply and hooked the Smart charger to that inverter. It actually worked so its a quirk in the Ford inverter.

Same thing with me. I got that option specifically to charge Milwaukee batteries and it won't do it. It also won't charge my older Asus laptop. What a joke. As my son would say "FAIL".

I wonder what would happen if you plugged in a cheap computer UPS to the truck and then plugged the charger into the UPS.

I think the issue would be - would the truck charge the UPS. Since the UPS has its own battery sourced power for the backup; you could run stuff without even plugging it into the truck. But I get the UPS has a monitor of the power source so I'm thinking it wouldn't work. It's starting to look like the AC outlets will not function when there is a system to monitor the power source. I don't know enough about electricity to understand what's going on but I'm sure someone on this forum will have an idea where the issue is with this.
