1966 F250

my 1966 F250 the 352 was cooked so i have put in the 390 from a 1976 f 250
the question i am having trouble with now is the wiring from the old harness
to the 76 harness for the alt and voltage regulator

i believe my truck has something like a HOT+ post on the firewall beside the
starter relay and also on the passenger fender there looks like a similar thing
all HOT post i can see in engine comp. all wired that come off the post look to be black with yellow tracer

has anyone had any experience with this swap

the wires i am left with on the passenger side coming off the firewall was

yellow from the horn relay to the HOT post on the firewall
blue yellow trace going to horn trigger switch
black and yellow trace thicker wire from the amp meter i am assuming
also another black yellow tracer going from firewall HOT post to the fender HOT

Pictures might help, but if cooked means you have melted wires, then I would recommend getting a replacement alternator to voltage regulator harness that is correct for the '66. The junction block should have the black/yellow wire from the alternator, the black/yellow wire going to the ammeter and the main body feed coming from the engine gauge feed harness that plugs into the firewall.

I'm not sure what you're calling the "HOT" post on the firewall.

I've got a '65 with a 390 (although from a '68). Is the '76 voltage regulator external like the '66?

Here's the wiring diagram for a '66
http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/se...ng_diagram.pdf

I believe the "hot post" you're referring to is a junction block as shown on the diagram.

Point type alternator voltage regulator is the same: 1963/64 Thunderbird; 1965/81 everything.

In 1982, Ford replaced the points type regulator w/an electronic regulator, the wiring harness is the same.

by cooked i meant the motor was gone rusted solid so i put the 390 in from my 76 parts truck
i will get some photos on later or tomorrow as its already dark out tonight

i took the alternator with the donor motor and all wires coming off including the 76 voltage regulator as well as the horn and horn relay wires as they where in the same harness in the 76. so i cut the harness at the firewall on the 76 parts truck just trying to merry that harness to the original 66 truck wires that would have went to the regulator from factory

just looking what wires from the 66 truck will join to the wires on the regulator really

like i said photos will come as soon as it lights up outside

on a side note the truck started and drove under its own power

the only wires i have any question with are the blue yellow stripe i figured that one goes to the horn but all small wires that look new are new and i just wanna see where or if i need then

the other wire by the blue with yellow stripe that comes from the truck was the green with a red stripe

this is the voltage reg that was on the 76 motor and truck

this is a regulator that was on the truck when i got it

it has a date on the bottom that says JAN 82

I did that swap into my 65 F-1, the wiring was identical. Use the 66 wiring diagram.
