I am picking up my 2017 F350 6.7L SB SRW King Ranch on Monday. I am considering purchasing an extended maintenance plan for 8 yrs/100,000 mi. I would appreciate any input on the pros and cons of these plans. That is, do you feel that they are worth the money compared to paying for maintenance on an "as required" basis either with a Ford dealer or my regular mechanic?
FWIW, I will not be using the truck commercially and probably will be driving it between 10 to 12,000 mi. per year.
Finally, the dealer told me that Ford "recommends" servicing (oil changes, etc.) the diesels every 10,000 mi. I was considering either the 5000 mi plan or the 7500 mi plan (lots more money). Am I being too conservative? Thanks for any advice.
These are 2 Ford dealers that are usually recommended on this forum and will save you money, remember you have 3 yr/36 mo. bumper to bumper before you need the ESP to start in. Ziegler Ford (866) 943-7778 and Flood Ford (888) 318-8534. The usual oil change interval is 5,000 miles, some guys let it go to 7,500 but I always change mine at 5k and use Rotella T-6 synthetic. Get educated on your truck and the maint. schedules so you don't get taken in by some crooked mechanic or dealer....FYI
I had the 84 months 100,000 mile cost me $2100 for my 2012 taking the same plan on my 2017 KR only adding the snow plow on for additional $600 I broke a leaf spring on my last truck and ford would not cover it unless I took off the plow frame, I change my oil every 5000 miles I use Rotella full synthetic and a Ford filter hope that helps
Wow! That doesn't sound good. Would you care to elaborate?
I purchased my F350 Platinum in October of 16, 15,000kms on it now. So far I have had the following issues;
-Headlight replacement due to moisture in housings so much that it was distorting the beam of the headlights.
-Roof leaking through the satellite antenna located on the passenger side of the roof. It was leaking through the up-lifter switches in the overhead console.
- Replacement of the infotainment system because audio quit. Display worked but no sound. 3 visits to the dealer to get this fixed.
-Rear door locks on both rear doors would not work with fob or manual. This was repaired twice, same issue.
-Drivers door would not latch/close. Fiddled with the latch to close it. Happened at the dealer once and then yesterday. Repaired with new parts.
-Drivers seat loose bottom part. They said it was fine, I tightened it myself.
-When cold -30C the truck rear end had a loud bang, enough to knock the snow off the truck. Started out sounding like a mudflap caught in the tire (it wasn't) and then when I slowed to stop at the stop sign the rear end had a loud bang. This happened twice in the same day. They could not find an issue, oil was good, no filings. I suspect the issue was with the rear diff lock selector system.
-Engine revs at 1300rpm upon cold start. If the remote start is used the engine will not idle down like the older models used to, when the remote time is done engine shuts down at high idle, that cannot be good for a diesel but I would be okay to be corrected. Tech said the idle is set from the factory. I said as long as you guys warranty the truck I am good. The engine will not warm up nor will the cab heat up. The only heat I get is from the supplemental cab heater (blow dryer). If I drive about 30 kms I will begin to get heat in the cab. The engine is only heating to 73F and sometimes only 54F. I have to provide video evidence so they believe me.
I love the truck, it drives great, comfortable, but these issues are a pain. I hope yours is much better.
I don't see how an extended maintenance plan could help in your situation? Maybe extended warranty would be in order......
Your right I thought this was the warranty you were talking about. I have the Maintenance Package but it is not called extended maintenance plan where I bought my truck.
I had a two-year plan given to me by ford for some problems we were having with my 2011 350 DRW when it was new I thought it was great not having to pay for oil changes and regular maintenance
When I purchased my 2017 450 I talked to my dealer about adding the maintenance plan and he looked at the numbers and basically said you were not saving any money all you're doing is paying for all of your maintenance upfront and that you know what your fixed cost are for the amount of time that you have the maintenance plan

Thanks much. I appreciate the input. I called Flood Ford and will probably go with them unless my dealer is willing to come close to Flood's price. BTW, regarding the Rotella T-6 synthetic oil, the Ford extended maintenance plan brochure references a "full synthetic oil option." Do you happen to know if Ford dealers use the Rotella oil - or do they use Ford brand synthetic oil?

Thanks. That confirms what I was thinking when I ran some numbers. While it may not be a money saver, I do like the idea of covering my maintenance costs up front. Also, I was thinking that, even if I don't keep the truck for the full term, it is transferable and it might be a selling point (??)
OP, I don't know what kind of price you're getting on that 8/100 ESP. I have a friend who works at a Ford dealership and sells it for $2235. He tells me that price is $100 over cost. Ford asks you to pay 10% down ($224) and the balance in 17 equal payments, no interest. This plan has a $100 deductible, first day rental car and includes lighting to cover the LED lights as they are expensive to repair.
Take this price to your dealership and ask them to match it. If they don't you can always contact me and I'll give you his info. You have 12 months / 12,000 miles to buy the warranty at that price. It goes up after the first year.
