I'm new here and not sure if I'm posting this in the right area. Any help is appreciated. I have a 1999 f150 XLT 4x4 5.4 V8. I recently got side swiped hit and run during the night when I was sleeping. I think they messed up my steering components because now when I'm driving straight, my steering wheel is about 45° to the left. Steering is still spot on, no slack when turning. I recently replaced the tie rod ends and then got an alignment so I don't think it's those. Is there any way to center the steering wheel?? It's driving me crazy!
45 degrees is a lot.
Likely an arm is bent or the pitman arm has been moved.
Or the steering shaft coupler has been moves from the hit.
The steering wheel is locked when setting so the shaft coupler down under the master brake cylinder is the first place to check out.
Find the cause as it to serious to let go like that.
Good luck.
did you get alignment AFTER the hit ? The tie rod ends are adjustable to set alignment and ALIGN THE STEERING WHEEL... You point the steering wheel straight forward, then look at the tires.. They will be angled to one side.. loosen the tie rod ands and adjust one IN 4 turns and out OUT 4 turns... still in alignment, but the tires now are more in alignment with THE STEERING WHEEL... (you may need more than 4 turns, keep checking).......... this assumes nothing is BENT or failed.. Normally if BENT you will no longer be in alignment and have the correct toe in.
