Security System

On my 2011 f350 Ultimate Lariat it came with some type of security system. That's what sticker on window said. On my 2017 f250 Ultimate Lariat on security system sticker so is that something I can add or is it not needed with the push button start feature. What is a good security system if needed.

Your truck comes with a factory security system, and it is the best system Ford has put in to date. It includes the usual perimeter alarm (door and hood) plus a tilt-angle sensor, plus an interior ultrasonic protection sensor system (4 sensors in overhead roof console). It also requires a matching key transponder in order for the engine to start. This system is standard on Lariat and up trucks, optional on XL and XLT trucks.

Is there any way to disable the interior sensors? I'm thinking of the times that my dog could be in the truck and set off the alarm.

Our little schnauzers have set mine off a couple times already. It's super irritating.

Yes when you turn off the engine a message will appear on the dash. Alarm Set to all or Patemiter. Something like that. It's default to All. If your dogs are inside select the opposite of all.

That is great news. Hopefully we will be ordering our new truck shortly and since our dog spends a lot of time in the truck this is an important issue for us.

On my F150, you can go to advanced settings, and tell it to either ask on exit, perimeter, or all sensors.

Does anyone know if the tailgate is tied into the alarm on the 2017s? On my 2014, I had my tailgate lock punched in San Antonio so some dip could open the bed and rummage around when I was at a hotel. Luckily, the only thing there for him to take was a plastic truck box with tie downs and bungies. Adjacent cars didn't fare so well with windows busted out.

It would be nice with the new electric tailgate lock if the alarm sounded when the tailgate was forced.

A related question: does anyone know if the aftermarket tailgate locks that fit on the pivot will fit these new trucks with the torsion bar?

I don't think the tailgate is tied in to the alarm at all (there is no message warning you your tailgate is down...no sensors). I do think the old school tailgate locks on the pivot will work. The new gate appears to be removed in a similar way to the old one.

The spare tire is connected. There is a sensor end bolted into one of the lug holes and wired.

I pulled up the owner's manual at work just now (don't tell my boss ), and the tailgate IS actually monitored by the alarm system. Full guard mode monitors doors, hood, tailgate, inside movement, and vehicle incline. Reduced guard monitors doors, hood, and tailgate.

Edit: I haven't seen anywhere that the spare is monitored by the alarm....

Strange! I see that the tailgate is covered per the manual. I wonder where the sensor is? On electric release models, it could be a microswitch in the latch mechanism. But on normal "locking" models, I have no idea where it could be.
