I can only guess that's what it is. There is a aluminum contraption on top the wheel bolted to a lug hole with a lug on the bottom side it has shielded wires coming from it so it has to be the alarm.

Well you don't have to worry about the lock getting punched anymore because they don't have a keyhole in the tailgate anymore (at least not on the Lariats and up). The tailgate is locked by the keyfob or automatically locks/unlocks when you lock/unlock your doors.
